Ballina Shire Council upgraded more than 20 hectares of parkland near the Richmond River and North Creek, adding a pump track to the Kingsford Smith Reserve, Designed to national competition standards, the facility includes a main track, junior track with alternate line, spectator areas, shelters and supporting amenities. Partridge delivered civil, hydraulic and structural engineering services, designing the stormwater infrastructure, water supply and structural elements underpinning the precinct. Working with Boyds Bay Group, New Eden Design and Velosolutions Australia, our focus was integrating durable engineering within a sensitive waterfront setting. Given the site’s proximity to tidal waterways, water management was central to the design. Water-sensitive urban design principles were applied to manage runoff, mitigate local flooding risk and protect downstream water quality, with rain gardens and bioretention swales incorporated to treat stormwater prior to discharge.
