PROJECT Arbory Afloat Pickle Ball Enclosure

DESIGNER | ARTIST Bespoke Wire and Rope

LOCATION Melbourne, VIC

Le Club Lacoste Melbourne transformed Arbory Afloat into a floating tennis court on the Yarra River as a short-term summer activation. Partridge was engaged by Bespoke Wire and Rope to provide structural engineering input for the sport court enclosure, comprising wall and roof netting installed above an operating barge. Despite its temporary nature, the enclosure posed complex constraints. Spanning approximately 15 metres by 20 metres, it was required to perform under player loads, wind actions and barge movement. Partridge designed and reviewed the tensioned netting system and provided reaction loads to support certification of the perimeter trusses and barge connections. A lightweight perimeter truss solution was adopted to limit deflection and manage ballast demands within a highly compressed delivery programme.
