Partridge provided structural and hydraulic engineering services for the new outdoor learning centre at Ewen Park, Hurlstone Park. Led by Canterbury Bankstown Council with Sam Crawford Architects and Sue Barnsley Design, the project transformed a former tennis court into a public pavilion beside the Cooks River. The pavilion, designed with a broad roof canopy, accommodates outdoor education and community use. Partridge’s structural role included design of the roof, framing, and foundations. Site conditions required a screw pile system to address geotechnical challenges and reduce environmental impact. The north-west corner was chosen for its higher ground, lowering flood risk, while the open central space demanded efficient steel framing and lateral stability solutions. Roof cantilevers provide shade and shelter while maintaining clear movement beneath. Hydraulic services included rainwater harvesting and stormwater design, integrated with landscape works to support Council’s sustainability goals. The facility delivers lasting community benefit while responding sensitively to its setting.
