Partridge recently provided structural engineering for an endangered frog conservation facility at Melbourne Zoo. Developed by Zoos Victoria following the 2019–20 bushfires, the specialised shelter supports critical species recovery programs. Our structural scope focused on designing a durable steel portal frame carport structure. This system protects a series of EPS-panelled refrigerated box units, which maintain the tightly controlled environmental conditions necessary for frog breeding and development. While modest in scale, the project required careful engineering to accommodate the loading demands of the refrigeration units and associated services within a compact footprint, ensuring long-term weather protection and reliable maintenance access. This project highlights how structural engineering delivers tailored technical solutions for conservation and research, where building performance directly supports vital scientific outcomes and native wildlife recovery.
