Partridge provided structural engineering services for the conversion of an existing garage rooftop suspended concrete slab into a new outdoor terrace area. Our initial scope involved assessing the structural capacity of the existing slab and supporting elements to determine load-carrying limits and governing constraints for proposed additions, including a spa pool and barbecue area. Based on our findings, we developed a tailored structural solution that achieved the architectural intent while minimising intervention to the existing structure. Partridge worked closely with the landscape architect to integrate structural requirements with the layout. The engineered solution incorporated localised strengthening, including new structural steel beams, alongside voided slab areas in selected locations to effectively reduce the imposed dead load from the new concrete spa and plant upstands.
