Partridge provided structural engineering services for this public artwork created by artist Mark O’Ryan and constructed by fabricator Lump Sculpture as part of Inner West Council’s GreenWay project. Located beside the Dulwich Hill light rail corridor, the installation combines ecological regeneration with structural design, providing a dedicated habitat for local bats within a restored native landscape. Our engineering scope focused on the design of the piled slab foundation, the central support post, and the base anchor fixings. The primary structural challenge was developing a robust support system that ensured long-term stability, safety, and durability in a public recreation setting. The design successfully accommodates environmental loads while remaining visually restrained, preserving the artist’s aesthetic vision.
