Muswellbrook’s Upper Hunter Valley welcomes a new education and innovation hub: the Donald Horne Building. This modern marvel, framed in concrete, boasts multi-function spaces and embraces its heritage neighbours. The star of the show is the atrium, spanning the building’s width with its airy grandeur. Our team’s engineering prowess shines in the glass bridge connecting two heritage gems – Loxton House and Weidmann Cottage – without a single piece of steel! Loxton House, revitalized with earthquake-proofing and a new passenger lift, houses a vibrant “Innovation Hub” for start-ups and research. The entryway, a port cochere, is a masterpiece of design, balancing a single point support with a seemingly floating ceiling that extends into the atrium. Partridge and Collins and Turner’s collaboration, using 3D and 2D CAD, hand sketches, and close architect communication, resulted in this stunning structure that seamlessly blends past and present.
