PROJECT Cara Djubak

DESIGNER | ARTIST Tilt Industrial Design

LOCATION Kwinana, WA

The Cara Djubak public artwork, a towering 10-meter-high sculpture located in the centre of a roundabout in Kwinana has become a striking landmark. Conceived and created by by Susan Milne, Greg Stonehouse, and Nyoongar Yamatji artist Justin Martin, with cultural advice from Cheryl Martin and design support from Tilt Industrial Design, the artwork honours the rich Indigenous heritage of this area near Perth in Western Australia. The sculpture, a giant yooral (traditional Indigenous carrying bowl) filled with spider orchids, is illuminated at night, creating a captivating visual spectacle. Its intricate design, featuring weathering steel ribs and laser-cut patterns, represents the region’s cultural significance. Partridge provided structural engineering design for the project, ensuring the sculpture’s stability and durability in its exposed location. The team addressed critical wind load considerations and designed a robust support structure to withstand harsh weather conditions.
