Iririki House, a 1907 residence straddling the line between Victorian and Federation design, has been revitalised by Madeleine Blanchfield into a contemporary family home for seven. As the client’s vision included a new pool, deck area, and raised lawn, the Partridge team were consulted to provide hydraulic engineering design.

A non-destructive root mapping exercise was conducted prior to construction to further refine the design and mitigate any potential impact on the environment. This careful approach allowed for the integration of the new pool and deck area into the existing landscape, preserving the home’s natural beauty and historical significance.
Given the heritage nature of the property and the significant alterations, the stormwater design and construction for Iririki House required a balance between modern functionality and historic preservation. The design aimed to minimise visual impact on the heritage building and the surrounding landscape, utilising materials that blende with the existing aesthetic. The steep site and the presence of mature trees presented unique challenges, which were addressed through careful excavation and the implementation of water-sensitive urban design principles.

A rainwater harvesting tank was specified, providing the residence with a sustainable source of water and reducing reliance on the mains supply. By prioritising minimal ground disturbance, sediment control, incorporating rainwater harvesting features and consideration of heritage features, the stormwater system contributed to the overall success of the project, ensuring the long-term sustainability and beauty of Iririki House.
