PROJECT Gulf Station

CLIENT The National Trust of Australia (Vic)

LOCATION Yarra Glen, VIC

Gulf Station in Yarra Glen is one of the country’s oldest and most intact pioneer farm complexes, welcoming families, school groups, and visitors to experience early rural history firsthand. When a deteriorating barn wall required evaluation, Partridge was engaged to assess the timber framing, connections, and overall structural integrity. Rather than applying a blanket fix, our engineering approach focused on understanding traditional 1840s construction techniques, weather exposure, and natural settlement over more than 150 years of service. This investigative process allowed us to distinguish between stable, historical movement and genuine structural risks that required intervention. To protect the site for the thousands of annual visitors, we developed targeted strengthening recommendations designed to be as discreet as possible. By keeping interventions minimal, we preserved the craftsmanship and character while ensuring long-term structural stability.
