This project for Bespoke Wire and Rope required innovative engineering to create a safe and fun net play area within an existing house frame. UHMWPE rope was used – a novel material for this application – typically used for racing yachts. Our team conducted extensive research and 3D modelling to ensure the net’s structural integrity and safety under dynamic child loads. We had to consider unusual loading patterns that might arise from their play, as well as potential injuries from climbing and falling. This meant designing rounded edges and concealing connections to minimise risk. By carefully considering existing structural limitations and potential failure modes, we successfully designed a visually appealing and secure play space.
