Architect: Site Studio Architecture
Location: Woollahra, NSW
Designed by Site Studio Architecture, the project involved the conversion of an existing garage rooftop suspended concrete slab into an outdoor terrace area.

Partridge was initially engaged to assess the structural capacity of the existing slab and supporting structure in relation to proposed additional loads, including a spa pool and barbecue area. This involved review of the existing structural configuration and assessment of load-carrying capacity and governing constraints.

Based on the findings, a concept-level structural solution was developed to support the proposed works within the limitations of the existing structure. Coordination was undertaken with the landscape architect to integrate structural requirements with the proposed layout. Localised strengthening was provided where required, including the introduction of additional beams. Voided slab areas were also incorporated in selected locations to reduce imposed dead load for new concrete structure (spa and plant upstands).

The final structural approach was developed to accommodate the proposed loading while minimising intervention to the existing structure and achieving the architectural intent and functional requirements of the proposed outdoor entertainment area.
