Perched on Point Nepean Road with views over Port Phillip Bay, this project brought together structural ingenuity and architectural vision to create a home that responds to both its striking location and the complexities of its site. Working alongside SJB Architects, we developed a design that balanced aesthetics with the practical demands of construction.

One of the key challenges was the large basement, which required careful consideration of the sandy soil conditions and neighbouring properties. Excavation and retention had to be precisely managed to ensure stability throughout construction. Above ground, concrete cantilevers extend with minimal slab depth, creating clean architectural lines while maintaining structural performance.

The roof structure, with its intricate steel framework, was another area requiring detailed engineering. Its refined, thin edge demanded both precision and a considered approach to material use. Precast walls featuring a ‘Reckli’ profile were incorporated into the façade, adding texture and depth while meeting structural requirements.

Throughout construction, collaboration was critical. Smith Builders worked closely with the design team, raising issues early and enabling practical, well-coordinated solutions. This proactive approach helped keep the project on track and ensured that engineering and architecture aligned throughout the build. This project highlights the importance of thoughtful structural design in complex coastal conditions, delivering a home that is both resilient and well-integrated with its surroundings.
