Manly House

Architects: TF Architects
Builder: David Campbell Building
Location: Manly NSW

TF Architects and David Campbell Building faced a unique set of challenges with the design and construction of this unique house in Manly NSW. The design included a five-meter concrete cantilever at the first floor, with a steel-framed counterpart at roof level,  curved roof profile with special glazing requirements, bespoke steel stairs, and off-form concrete elements with integrated window details and drainage.

Partridge joined the project after construction began, collaborating with the builder to make design changes including the removal of supporting columns to maximise the panoramic views over Manly and the coastline to the north.

To further reduce the impact of structure the supporting columns were designed as concrete filled steel tubular columns to minimise the column diameters. Through close collaboration with the builder. architect and client, we were able to push the boundaries of what was possible with the design, construction materials and detailing to achieve the home owners vision for their home and fully utilising the iconic Sydney view.
