Partridge is pleased to announce the completion of this creative architecture project, designed by Nici Long with Juan Pablo Pinto and the Cave Urban team. The result is a pool cabana and garage extension formed as a beautiful curved concrete structure with a presence of its own contrasting with the original existing home.
The curved concrete pergola roof, with its distinctive circular void, is finely detailed, supported at one end on the steel framed cabana roof while at the other end balancing on a single concrete column.
The cabana is supported on a concrete transfer slab linking into the existing house above the new garage and providing direct access to the original swimming pool. Reinforced concrete was the material chosen to achieve the beautiful curves for the pergola roof, transfer slab and curved stairs. To achieve cost saving, the more regular roof shape of the cabana room was realised as a structural steel frame.
The concrete columns, sized and detailed for minimal diameter are provided with a mushroom head with a seamless transition into the off-form concrete slab soffits.
The spiral stair takes advantage of the u-shape cross section to span without intermediate supports unto the end on the original structure. The project demanded well executed reinforcement detailing and installation concrete formwork installation and well managed structural steel installation by the site team.
