The Sydney Park Water Re-Use Project, a cornerstone of Sustainable Sydney 2030, stands as a leading environmental endeavour for the city. Over the past two decades, the former brickworks and landfill site has been converted into thriving 44-hectare park servicing the green space and recreation needs of the inner city communities in Sydney’s south-east.

Partridge provided civil and structural engineering services to support the transformation of the site into a functioning urban wetland and community space. Our role covered the design and coordination of structures for stormwater harvesting, treatment and reuse, serving both environmental and community needs. This included work on the Munni Channel, where flows through the wetlands were managed to support water quality and habitat outcomes.

Hydraulic systems were developed for the amenities block, kiosk and Cares precinct to ensure reliable water supply and wastewater management. Across the landscape structures, Partridge worked to integrate hydraulic solutions with structural requirements and the surrounding terrain. The stormwater harvesting network was designed to capture and distribute water for irrigation and wetland circulation, reducing reliance on potable supplies. By addressing the movement, storage and reuse of water across varied elements of the park, Partridge contributed to a landscape that supports ecological health and public use, with the site having seen a 24% increase in the number of bird species recorded from 2013 to 2019 and improving the public awareness of the environmental and water cycle.
