Ballina’s Kingsford Smith reserve is being enhanced with a new pump track and upgraded community area. This project, aiming to revitalise over 20 hectares of parkland in line with Ballina’s vision for public spaces, involves key partners. Working closely with Velosolutions for pump track design and Boyds Bay Group for the construction and landscaping, Partridge is handling the civil, hydraulic and structural engineering design – designing the stormwater, structures and water supply needed for the new facilities.

Currently in the design and environmental review phase, the project is preparing for construction around September. This stage ensures the plans are environmentally sound and align with regional sustainability goals.

Due to the site’s proximity to the Richmond River and North Creek, careful water management is essential. Partridge is using water-sensitive design principles including rain gardens and bioretention swales to protect the waterways, manage runoff, and prevent flooding during heavy rain. This approach is vital for preserving the local environment and ensuring the park remains a great, long-lasting community asset.

Partridge’s early involvement in designing robust water systems is key to developing a vibrant, sustainable, and connected public precinct on this iconic waterfront.
