Salary: $70,000 to $80,000, plus superannuation
Position Summary
This role requires expertise in building drainage design, encompassing both above and below ground systems. Additionally, the successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of on-site detention and rainwater tank design. Knowledge of pavement design, vehicular movement and clearance planning, and the principles of water quality management and Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) are also essential.
Responsibilities include participation in site inspections and the preparation of reports on rainwater harvesting, stormwater management, and flood mitigation strategies. As the engineer progresses and acquires new skills, they will gain the ability to perform advanced calculations, apply complex design concepts, conduct in-depth analyses, and contribute to the development of preliminary designs under the guidance of a senior engineer.
Key Responsibilities + Duties
1 To listen, collaborate and communicate effectively with internal staff and external agencies.
2 Undertake structural calculations, analysis and design to meet project requirements and in accordance with applicable standards and design directives.
3 Prepare hand sketches of designs and details.
4 Undertake drainage, water quality and flood modelling in engineering software.
5 Undertake civil engineering reports and assessments as required.
6 Attend project meetings, design reviews and peer review of project documents as required.
7 Check drafting work to ensure drawings detail the design requirements.
8 Attend site inspections and facilitate builder site enquiries.
9 Seek knowledge and understanding to continuously improve own practices and maintain professional accreditations.
10 Undertake other duties as required by the business and requested by your manager.
Qualifications, Knowledge + Skills
1 Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree (Honours) with graduate membership of the Institution of Engineers Australia (GradIEAust).
2 Civil engineering experience with knowledge of stormwater design, driveway, pavement and public domain design, water quality, and WSUD.
3 Proven problem solving and analytical skills, the ability to scope the work, gather data, analyse and formulate an opinion and develop a solution or design (to think and deliver).
4 Exercises sound judgement in engineering activities.
5 Excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to engage and collaborate with external agencies (clients, architects, builders).
6 Ability to communicate and engage with other internal design team members.
7 Ability to work in a small team environment.
8 Keep abreast of new knowledge through continuing professional development activities.
9 Proven ability to conduct site inspections, issue site instructions promptly and write reports.
10 Ability to accurately check drafting documentation.
11 Ability to meet deadlines and keep a daily time sheet.
12 Experience in the following programs: DRAINS, HEC-RAS, TUFLOW, MUSIC, AutoCAD, Civil3D.
