At Partridge we love to keep things interesting and take on the bespoke, exciting and unusual projects!

Sydney Zoo, a world-class 16.5-hectare attraction, opened on the 7th December 2019 and is home to many exotic and native animals. Boasting Australia’s largest reptile and nocturnal house, and Sydney’s only zoo and aquarium all in one!

Partridge was proud to have been engaged in the design of the state-of-the-art and innovative facilities. With elevated walkways, incredible proximity to the animals and advanced display techniques of the aquarium structures such as the penguin, crocodile, and platypus enclosures including the fantastic shark tank viewing window which we were pleased to have designed and certified!

Partridge also undertook the design of an O-
line for the orangutans at the Sydney Zoo

The suspended cable track gives orangutans the ability and freedom to move around, running from the orangutan enclosure and over the public footpath and elephant enclosure, looping back to their own enclosure.

The ropes need to remain at minimum 8m off ground level to deter the orangutans from jumping down and some platforms are electrified so the orangutans can’t climb down the poles.

We designed the poles, their footings, the platforms, the cables and their connections, the main challenge ensuring all the details were robust enough so that the orangutans were not able to tamper with them …they know how to undo bolts!

Current progress – we’re at about 90% construction documentation, awaiting final approval from the primates specialist before they give the design the final tick prior to commencing on site at a later date.

Once completed, Malu, the current occupant at Sydney zoo will be joined by a female companion from Perth to appreciate the newly designed O cables!
