Partridge is thrilled and honoured to share that two of our house projects were recognised this week at the 2017 Concrete Institute of Australia “Excellence in Concrete” Awards.   The two projects – known as Manly House and K House – won Excellence in Concrete awards at the NSW State awards in the Residential Buildings category.  Both projects now go in for the National Awards, which will be announced in October.  Of course, Partridge has some runs on the board here, with our Glebe House project winning both the State and National Awards in 2015!

This is the second major engineering award bestowed on the Manly House – it also won the “Excellence in Structural Engineering” award at the ACSE awards last March.  Up against some very stiff competition (including an impressive multi-storey residential tower), the judges commented “that the engineering involved in the cast in-situ, vertical, thin curved elements was extremely difficult, and then to be constructed with off-white cement so such a high-quality finish was exceptional“.  Kudos and congratulations to our collaborators PopovBass (architect) and Horizon Habitats (builder).

The K House at Vaucluse was similarly recognised for its complex forms and for showcasing off-form concrete.  Partridge worked hard to ensure not just that the structure held up, but also to control concrete-shrinkage and ensure the architect’s aesthetic vision was realised.  Kudos and congratulations to our collaborators MHNDU (architect) and – again – Horizon Habitats (builder).

We’re grateful to the Concrete Institute of Australia and other engineering industry bodies that recognise that the structural engineering of high-end houses can be as difficult and as technically challenging as the larger projects that are often the focus of engineering awards.   Photos of both projects can be seen in our Gallery.
